Applesauce Waffles

Ingredients:
  • (1 3/4 cups) whole wheat flour
  • (1/2 cup) wheat bran
  • (1/2 tsp.) salt
  • (1 tsp.) apple pie spice
  • (3/4 cup) water
  • (1 tsp.) honey
  • (2 tsp.) active dry yeast
  • (2 medium) apples, grated
  • (3 Tbsp.) applesauce
  • (1 cup) skim milk
  • (2) egg whites

Applesauce Waffles

With grated apples, apple pie spice and applesauce, apples do triple-duty in this recipe!

    Instructions

  1. 1Combine flour, wheat brean, salt and apple pie spice in a medium bowl, set aside. In another bowl, combine water and honey. Add yeast and set aside 5 minutes.

  2. 2Add apples, applesauce, milk and egg whites to yeast mixture. Pour into dry ingredients, stir, cover and set aside 15 minutes.

  3. 3Preheat waffle iron. Spray with cooking spray, then add 1/4 cup batter. Close and cook about 7 minutes, or until golden brown.
  4. 4Repeat and serve.
